The Plym Valley Cycle Route
About this site

The 10Km (approx.6miles) Plym Valley section of National Cycle Route 27, from Marsh Mills in Plymouth to Clearbrook on Dartmoor is a popular day ride or walk for locals and tourists through spectacular scenery.

But this valley also has a history of mining, quarrying and transport dating back to the 12thC. leaving a fascinating legacy of structures and ruins, often overgrown by the forest.

Using the home page map to link to 3 more detailed maps with their text and photo links this site aims to give an outline view of the what to see on the cycle route or by taking a short detour from it

The idea of this site originated when the Geology Department at the University of Plymouth used to run Environmental Geology day field trips up the Plym Valley by bicycle. The planned field guide never got quite got published, but I have included some of the ideas in this site.
