Conferences
This is a list of well-established annual conferences that accept papers relating to learning technologies. A full list of forthcoming conferences in ed tech is maintained by the Institute for Educational Technology at the Open University. Subject-specific conferences are listed on the web sites of the LTSN subject centres. Many institutions now have their own seminar series or regular event at which learning technology innovations can be presented to colleagues.
The Association for Learning Technologies (ALT) organises the largest conference on learning technologies in the UK. Aimed at practitioners, researchers and developers, ALT-C takes a different theme each year and offers a vast range of parallel sessions and interest groups.
The British Educational Communications and Technology Agency runs an annual research conference aimed at researchers and practitioners from across all sectors of education, but with the focus on schools and colleges.
ED-MEDIA is an international conference on educational media, multimedia, hypermedia and telecommunications, organised by the US-based Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education. It takes place in a different country each year. The same web site has details of the SITE international conference (Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education).
Educause, the US-based organisation for learning technologies in higher education, organises a large international conference with a practitioner focus.
The European Conference on eLearning is a relatively new fixture for academics, practitioners and consultants involved in ICT initiatives in learning and teaching.
Improving Student Learning is an annual scholarly conference organised by the Oxford Centre for Staff and Learning development. Papers are invited from researchers and action researchers in further and higher education.
The Institute for Learning and Teaching in HE runs an annual conference for learning and teaching professionals in UK HE.
The two-yearly Networked Learning Conference (this is from 2002) is a major forum for discussion of online learning, with the emphasis on collaborative, cooperative and group working. Full text papers are published on the web site.
The Society for Research into Higher Education organises an annual conference on research and scholarship in the field, including learning technologies.
The Staff and Educational Development Association runs several annual events including two conferences for researchers and learning and teaching professionals in UK HE. Papers are accepted on a wide range of learning and teaching issues including educational uses of new technologies.
