The EM Centre plays an active role in schools' liaison, working with students of all ages to encourage understanding and participation in discovery and learning. We have supported several successful Nuffield Summer Science bursaries in recent years.

Annual A-level Biology Schools' Visits:

Every September nearly a thousand A level students from the West Country visit the EM Centre to “get close to the microscopes”.

Each group of students spends time discussing specimen preparation methods and examines specimens in both the Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopes. Where time permits, most groups also opt for a guided tour of the campus taking in Science Faculty Laboratories, the Library, Students Union and Accommodation blocks. We are currently working to expand this support to include A-Level students from physics and technology.
