Aims

To provide a web based interactive system to prepare students for independent fieldwork near Kingsand & Cawsand at Sandway Cellar.

Objectives

By the end of this fieldwork you should be able to:

  1. Identify 4 different types of rocks and describe their main features
  2. Take dip/dip direction measurements with your compass clinometer
  3. Make some appropriate field notes/sketches

Learning Outcomes

  1. To provide background information about the area to be visited
  2. Appreciate the challenges of working the field environment

Subject Specific & Transferrable Skills

Before and during the fieldwork you should have practised the following skills:

  1. IT skills (use of the website and the PDAs)
  2. Map reading
  3. Teamwork
  4. Communication
  5. Observational and descriptive skills
  6. Use of a compass clinometer
  7. Use of a hand-lens and grain-size comparison chart
