Aims
To provide a web based interactive system to prepare students for independent fieldwork near Kingsand & Cawsand at Sandway Cellar.
Objectives
By the end of this fieldwork you should be able to:
- Identify 4 different types of rocks and describe their main features
- Take dip/dip direction measurements with your compass clinometer
- Make some appropriate field notes/sketches
Learning Outcomes
- To provide background information about the area to be visited
- Appreciate the challenges of working the field environment
Subject Specific & Transferrable Skills
Before and during the fieldwork you should have practised the following skills:
- IT skills (use of the website and the PDAs)
- Map reading
- Teamwork
- Communication
- Observational and descriptive skills
- Use of a compass clinometer
- Use of a hand-lens and grain-size comparison chart
