How to use a compass clinometer

There is a tutorial on how to use a compass clinometers available on computers in the Fitzroy Building.

Select Start, then All programs - University Software – Earth Science Courseware - Compass Clinometer.

How to use the PDAs and MScape:

For your fieldwork exercise you will be utilising PDAs with accessories (Similar to those shown below). These will be used to locate geological areas of interest at Sandway Cellar beach (near Kingsands).

 

• Training materials and PDAs are available in LABplus on the 7th Floor of the Davy Building. It is highly recommended that you familiarise yourself with the devices before going out into the field.

• The PowerPoint from your training session ' Using MScape on your PDA' is also available for reference.

• What is MScape? MScape is a multimedia software for windows mobile devices that links GPS and maps to create both games and educational interactive environments that relate to a specific georeferenced location. You will be using MScape for this fieldwork exercise.



• How does it work? When the software is running the built in GPS locates the user on the map. When that user enters a pre-programmed location it activates a multimedia event related to that specific location.
