Funded by HEFCE, the Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) initiative began in with the aim of rewarding and extending excellent teaching practice. The University of Plymouth was awarded 4 CETLs;
- Higher Education Learing Partnerships (HELP CETL)
- Centre for Sustainable Futures (CSF)
- Centre for Excellence in Professional Placement Learning (CEPPL)
- Experiential Learning Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (EL CETL)
The CETL in Experiential Learning arose from a strong tradition at Plymouth of ‘hands on’ learning in the environmental and natural sciences, typified by fieldwork, laboratory work and work-based learning. Since it's beginning in 2005, the EL CETL has enhanced the quality and quantity of students’ learning in these environments by:-
- providing expertise and resources to develop the experiential curriculum and maximise the learning derived from it;
- creating innovative learning spaces and teaching approaches;
- undertaking research into the role and nature of experiential learning;
- building partnerships in experiential learning at the local, regional and national level.
May 2010 saw the close of the EL CETL, leaving behind it a wealth of research, development and innovation. This website exits to extend the legacy of the EL CETL, housing a variety of media to inform, describe and illustrate the activity and impact that the EL CETL has achieved.
The EL CETL has uploaded all of the outputs produced by the project onto the UPlaCe Repository, with an aim where used, to develop further excellence and to disseminate this work and existing good practice. In addition to this, a selection of outputs are hosted on this website.
