Other aspects of the CETL’s research have related to ‘up-and-coming’ areas which are relevant to understanding learning in the CETL disciplines. In particular we have been interested in the role of threshold concepts in student learning, and in investigating and understanding the brain-related processes associated with learning about the Earth (geocognition).
We also contributed to research into the role of technologically-mediated environments in student learning, in particular the role of ‘immersive’ environments such as domes. This was
a collaborative research exercise between the Experiential Learning CETL, the University of Plymouth Embodied Cognition and Emotion Laboratory, and the immersive media industry.Work has been presented at national and international conferences, and papers submitted to peer-reviewed journals.
